Gor Morning Japan

After waking up this morning I read some news on the net and found something interresting at reuters.com. According to the newssite the nuclear crisis in Japan is slowly stabilizing. Now the country must focus on repairing the damage wrought by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the northeast coast a month ago, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said.

The operator of Japan´s tsunamidamaged nuclear power plant, Electric Power Co, announced on Wednesday that preparing plans for compensation to everyone affected by the crisis has begun. Although nothing special has been decided.

To me it sounds like good news. Have a nice day you all

As it wasnt enough

After the earthquake that struck the coast of Japan March 11th 2011 the almost 10 m high tsunami swept over cities and farmlands of the northern parts the country. People missing, people who lost their homes, people who died. As this wasnt enough Japan had to face the worst nuclear emergency since Tjernobyl. As a project in school we had the chance to get our opinion out creating a poster, about the source of energy that nobody wants next to where they live. I´m proud of being against nuclear power.

The nuclear accident in Fukushima is not the worst ever, but the most complicated.  The earthquake triggered three active reactors to shut down. The subsequent tsunami damaged the grid connection and flooded the station’s backup diesel generators, causing a station blackout. The subsequent lack of cooling led to explosions and partial meltdowns at the Fukushima I facility, with problems at all six reactor units and the central spent fuel pool.

At the time of the quake, reactors 4, 5 and 6 had been idled for planned maintenance. The remaining reactors were shut down automatically after the earthquake, and emergency generators were started to run the water pumps needed to cool them…

As complicated it is to read about and understand, it leaves a bad aftertaste. The whole nuclear power thing.

Let´s go green. Totally green. Keep on voting for wind, water, solar resources of power. Renewable energy from nature!
